The Invisible Man: An Orchestral Tribute to Dr. Dre

DOORS - 19:30

Parish Events, Tru Thoughts Records & Holmfirth Picturedrome are incredibly excited to present:

Sly5thAve's Invisible Man - A 21 Piece Orchestral Tribute to Dr Dre.

This is a full blown 21 Piece Orchestral tribute to one of the greatest Hip Hop mega stars of all time. Endorsed by the man himself:

“I’m here to show some support and give the same amount of love that this incredible band has given to me. You sound amazing.”  – DR. DRE (THE CALI-LOVE CONCERT)

Gaining massive praise from anyone who has experienced the live shows. This tour is going to be huge and we are so proud to be bringing this to Holmfirth.

Further praise:

“Sly5thAve keeps on delivering”—THE FADER

"He's transformed Kendrick Lamar's "Bitch Don't Kill My Vibe," Drake's "Hold On, We're Going Home," and even Mark Ronson's "Uptown Funk" into lush instrumental versions” – NOISEY

“Tall, gallant and bittersweet, Sly and his ClubCasa Chamber Orchestra once again tease out depth and nuance from pop glitz.”—INDIE SHUFFLE

“He’s evolved from a novice player with a horn to an insightful composer drafting life’s chronicle.” – THE JAZZ TIMES

“Intense and confident. It lands like a big surprise.” – THE MERCURY NEWS

Sly5thAve is the project of multi-instrumentalist, composer, arranger and producer Sylvester Uzoma Onyejiaka II, whose sophisticated compositions are shaped by his faith in hip hop, and deep understanding of soul and jazz. On 17th November 2017, Sly5thAve released his most impressive LP to date – ‘The Invisible Man: An Orchestral Tribute to Dr. Dre’. The album was first devised as a benefit concert at the Wilshire Ebell Theatre in L.A. which was attended by Dr. Dre who took to the stage to thank Sly5thAve’s arrangements. Sly5thAve went on to refine twenty-three large-ensemble arrangements from the show on this recording which have been met with glowing praise, procuring support from Radio FIP (Selection FIP), radio play from KCRW, Nemone, Lauren Laverne, Craig Charles (BBC 6Music), Jazz FM playlisting, alongside online and print reviews from The Arts Desk, Okayplayer, Earmilk and The Scottish Express.

In 2016, Sly5thAve signed to Tru Thoughts records and officially released his ‘Composite’ EP the following year, which featured his arrangements of orchestral covers of Rihanna, Drake and Frank Ocean performed with the Brooklyn-based ClubCassa Chamber Orchestra. This was succeeded by his blissed-out single “Early Morning” with Will “Quantic” Holland on guitar and the release of his most notable project to date – ‘The Invisible Man: An Orchestral Tribute to Dr. Dre’ later that year.

With a core underground following, Grammy award-winning horns player Sly5thAve’s projects have been backed by Jarobi White (A Tribe Called Quest), Gilles Peterson (BBC 6Music), Downbeat magazine, Noisey, NPR, The Fader, Jazz Times, Indie Shuffle, Earmilk and more. He has also attained much respect from his work with a host of highly- fêted musicians including; Prince, Stevie Wonder, Gladys Knight, The Dave Brubeck Quartet, Quantic, Taylor Swift, Janelle Monae, and Freddie Gibbs.
