| The Bamforth family had operated in Holmfirth since the 1880's producing many silent films between 1898-1902 and 1913-1915 that were so popular they were exported around the world. Many extras were brought in from around the Holme Valley and starred in such films. See the 'History' section on the Cinema page for more information about the past films. The First World War took its toll on the company and the Bamforth's had to cease theit production of films. However, the company starting designing romantic postcards during the war, which seemed to be a great success.
